Teaser of Disappearing Villages
Over the past decade, over 900,000 villages in China have disappeared amid rapid urbanization. As urbanization proceeds, 20 traditional villages disappear a day. The decline of villages is accompanied by the partial vanishment of rural culture. In light of this, Director Shen Shaomin made a documentary Disappearing Villages (xiaoshi de cunluo), which focuses on funeral and burial traditions and records the process of village vanishment from his perspective as an artist. The documentary also shows the enigmatic evolution of traditional culture in the course of urbanization and thus speaks volumes about the shock of urbanization to traditional culture.
