The Weiyong Concept Store applies digital techniques to its design of traditional Chinese-style furniture. While applying cutting enabled by CNC (Computer Numerical Control), the designer deliberately puts to use negative space and cuts in a way that maximizes the utilization of materials. While deploying digitized tools, the designer also preserves the traditional design style and details like mortise and tenon joints. The concept store is a window for the public to better understand CNC-enabled furniture and design and inspires designers’ enthusiasm and creativity in CNC; it advocates for commitment to environmental protection, conservation and sustainability, and also carries forward traditional Chinese culture.
